Big Sky is the kind of mountain people travel across the country to ski. The terrain is enormous, Lone Peak dominates the skyline, and the resort has invested heavily in fast, modern lift infrastructure. Private aviation helps make a destination that feels remote much easier to use for a long weekend or family winter trip.
Fly into Bozeman and keep the trip moving
Big Sky Resort says Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is about 50 miles from the resort, or roughly an hour by road through the Gallatin River Canyon.
For private travelers, the advantage is control. A flight can be scheduled around the group rather than an airline connection, with room planned for skis, snowboards and winter luggage. That can preserve enough time on arrival or departure day to make the trip feel longer without adding another night.
SKI Magazine's No. 1 resort in the West
SKI Magazine's 2026 Reader Resort Survey ranked Big Sky No. 1 in the West. Readers highlighted its terrain variety, modern lift network, big mountain challenge and uncrowded feel. The resort itself says the recognition followed years of major lift and guest experience investment.
Big Sky offers thousands of acres of terrain, from long groomers to Lone Peak's expert lines, giving mixed ability groups plenty to do without outgrowing the mountain.
Winter goes far beyond the lifts
Big Sky's winter activities include Nordic skiing, snowshoe tours, dog sledding, snowmobiling, sleigh and snowcat dinners and winter excursions into Yellowstone National Park.
Republic Aviation can plan the whole aviation piece
Republic Aviation helps compare properly certificated operators and aircraft based on winter performance, passenger count, equipment, baggage, range and schedule. The objective is to keep the transportation simple so the group can focus on the mountain.
