Lajitas is supposed to feel far away. That is part of the appeal. The resort sits along the Rio Grande in the Big Bend region, surrounded by desert, mountains, dark skies, and the kind of quiet that is hard to find anywhere else in Texas.
The only downside is getting there. From Houston, Austin, or Dallas, the drive can consume most of a day before the trip really begins. Private aviation changes that equation completely.

A recent reviewer who had played dozens of highly ranked courses singled out the quality of the fairways and called the course worth the trip. The problem with Lajitas is also what makes it great
Lajitas is not sitting beside a major interstate or commercial airport. You do not accidentally end up there. That remoteness protects the experience, but it also makes the drive significant.
From Austin, the drive is roughly eight hours. From Dallas, it is around ten hours. From Houston, published route estimates generally put the drive at roughly ten to twelve hours depending on the route and traffic.
That means a traditional weekend trip can easily lose most of Friday and most of Sunday just moving between home and the resort.

Fly directly into Lajitas
Lajitas International Airport, FAA identifier T89, is located about four miles east of the resort. The airport has a 6,500 foot concrete runway, Jet A and 100LL fuel, and transportation to the resort can be arranged in advance. The airport is designed to accommodate a wide range of aircraft, subject to aircraft performance, operating limitations, weather, and operator requirements.
That is what makes Lajitas such a natural private aviation destination. You are not flying to a city hours away and then finishing the trip by car. You can land essentially at the destination.
How much time can flying save?
The exact flight time depends on aircraft type, routing, winds, weather, departure airport, and air traffic. Still, straight line planning estimates show just how different the trip can be.
Houston to Lajitas: roughly 1 hour 30 minutes of estimated nonstop flight time versus roughly 10 to 12 hours by car.
Austin to Lajitas: roughly 1 hour 15 minutes of estimated nonstop flight time versus a little over 8 hours by car.
Dallas to Lajitas: roughly 1 hour 30 minutes of estimated nonstop flight time versus about 10 hours by car.
Those are planning estimates, not guaranteed block times or door to door travel times. But the difference is large enough to change the entire trip.
You can leave Texas' major cities in the morning and be in Big Bend with most of the day still in front of you. On the way home, you can enjoy more of your final day instead of planning the entire schedule around a long drive.
More time at the resort, less time getting to it
For a two or three night trip, saving several hours each way is not a small convenience. It can mean another round at Black Jack's Crossing, a trail ride at sunset, dinner without watching the clock, time in Big Bend, or simply another morning where you are not already thinking about the drive home.
