Telluride may be the strongest private aviation ski story in Colorado. The resort is famous partly because it feels remote, but travelers arriving by private aircraft can land remarkably close to the mountain.
Land about 15 minutes from Mountain Village
Telluride Ski Resort says Telluride Regional Airport is roughly six miles and about 15 minutes from Mountain Village, and the airport is open to general aviation and private aircraft. Montrose Regional Airport, the primary commercial alternative, is about 65 miles and roughly 75 minutes away.
That difference can transform the trip. A group arriving privately can avoid a long winter transfer after landing and keep far more of the first and last day usable.
What the ski press says about Telluride
SKI Magazine ranked Telluride No. 13 in the West for 2026 and described it as a remote, bucket list destination with serious terrain and unmistakable local character. Visit Telluride also notes that Condé Nast Traveler readers have ranked Telluride the No. 1 ski resort in North America.
The appeal is not only expert skiing. Telluride combines beginner and intermediate terrain with hike to lines, bowls and steep technical options, all surrounded by the San Juan Mountains.

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, Telluride offers heli skiing, Nordic skiing, fat biking, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice climbing, sledding, sleigh rides, ice skating and nearby hot springs.
