Private aviation gives the group more airport choices
Kohler lists Green Bay at roughly 58 miles from Whistling Straits, Milwaukee at about 72 miles and Chicago O'Hare at roughly 142 miles. Private aviation can open additional regional airport options, depending on the aircraft, runway, weather and operator requirements.
For golfers from Houston, Austin or Dallas, the advantage is schedule control and reducing the ground leg. Instead of cutting the final round short to make an airline flight, the aircraft can be scheduled around the golf.
What Golf Digest says about Whistling Straits
Golf Digest ranks the Straits Course No. 4 among America's 100 Greatest Public Courses for 2025-26 and rates it 4.7 out of 5. The magazine describes Pete Dye's transformation of a flat former Army air base into a dramatic links-style landscape along two miles of Lake Michigan.
The course has hosted three PGA Championships, the 2007 U.S. Senior Open and the 2021 Ryder Cup.
